The 15 Minute Non-Surgical Nose Job

15 minute nose job
What is a Non-Surgical Nose Job? Simply put, a non-surgical nose job refers to a procedure to correct irregularities or asymmetry of the nose through the use of dermal filler injections.  Also known as non-surgical rhinoplasty or the “15-minute nose job,” the technique is gaining in popularity by offering patients a chance to see how surgical outcomes may look without the downtime and expense of surgery.

How Does a Non-Surgical Nose Job Work?
A plastic surgeon, cosmetic surgeon or cosmetic nurse uses a hyaluronic acid dermal filler such as Radiesse, Restylane or Juvederm and injects tiny amounts under the patientís skin on the bridge, tip and sides of the nose to smooth bumps and fill hollow areas.  Because the dermal fillers are moldable immediately after injecting, the doctor can shape the microdroplets to achieve the best aesthetic results for the patientís unique facial features.  While a non-surgical nose job will not make a nose smaller, a symmetrical nose often creates the optical illusion of a smaller nose.

Who Would Benefit from a Non-Surgical Nose Job?

A non-surgical nose job will not treat a deviated septum or breathing problems, narrow the bridge, reduce the tip size or remove a large bump.  However, a non-surgical nose job is highly effective if you want to:

  • Improve symmetry
  • Smooth out a bump by filling in the surrounding areas
  • Eliminate indentions, grooves, or depressions
  • Enhance the beauty of an ethnic nose by defining the bridge to reduce the appearance of a rounded tip
  • Lift a drooping tip
  • Reduce the appearance of a high tip by filling in the ìsaddle noseî area of the bridge

What are the Pros and Cons of a Non-Surgical Nose Job?

The pros often outweigh the cons for those patients who want to achieve temporary aesthetic improvements through nasal symmetry.  But, again, for those people needing to address more prominent problems or who require more permanent results, a good old fashioned nose job is probably best.  Here’s a list of the pros and cons of a non-surgical nose job:

  • No need for anesthesia
  • Little to no recovery time
  • Limited if any bruising
  • Less risk than surgery
  • Significantly less expensive
  • If you donít like it, results are temporary (usually lasting 3-4 months)

  • Will not correct all types of nose asymmetry
  • Several treatments may be needed to achieve desired results
  • While results are temporary, if you donít like it, the filler cannot be easily removed (always choose an experienced surgeon)
  • Risk of lumpy or uneven appearance
  • Slight risk of migration, hyper-sensitivity or auto immune reaction

Are There Other Kinds of Non-Surgical Nose Jobs?

Another alternative to a surgical nose job is the use of nose inserts.  A nose insert can potentially create the appearance of a straighter nose and help lift a dropping or “hook” tip instantly.  It works by inserting a pair of curved splints along the edge of each nostril.  These do-it-yourself products are somewhat new and unproven, but they do allow for some forms of nose correction without the need for a nurse or plastic surgeon.  The down side includes some discomfort until you get used to wearing them, but nose inserts are inexpensive and offer the convenience of removal at any time.  They should not be worn while laying down, swimming, exercising or sleeping.

Do Your Research Before Deciding on the Best Way to Correct Your Nose

As more and more options for aesthetic improvements flood the market, it is more important than ever to do your homework before deciding on the best treatment for your unique needs.  Find a qualified doctor or cosmetic medical professional who has lots of credentials and experience to back it up.  Ask plenty of questions and utilize the Internet to research doctors and procedures before undergoing any treatment, and always seek referrals from trusted friends and associates.
